Stephan König

Stephan König, born in Berlin (Germany) in 1963, studied piano, conducting and composition at the „Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy“ College of Music in Leipzig, Germany. He has appeared as a soloist internationally in China, Russia, Poland, Romania, Lithuania, Ukraine, Switzerland, Austria, France, Italy, Spain, Guatemala, Honduras, Chile a.o. and has won numerous international competitions. Stephan König has performed with the Gewandhaus Orchestra, Leipzig Opera, Schauspiel Leipzig, MDR Symphony Orchestra, MDR Choir, Krystallpalast Leipzig, Staatskapelle Halle, Orquesta de Cámara de Valdivia (Chile), European Summer Philharmonic among others. He has collaborated with Rebekka Bakken, Uschi Bruening, Richard Galliano, Nigel Kennedy, Ines Agnes Krautwurst, Lyambiko, Anca Parghel, Martin Petzold, Florian Poser, Sjaella, Fermín Villanueva, Sebastian Weber, Pascal von Wroblewsky and many others. He has over 200 compositions to his credit. His compositions have been performed by Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig, St. Thomas Choir Leipzig, Leipzig String Quartet, Jena Philharmonie, Orquesta de Cámara de Valdivia (Chile), LeipJAZZig Orkester among others. For the past 35 years, König has taught piano and jazz piano at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy College of Music in Leipzig and is an active part of Leipzig's lively jazz scene. Stephan König founded the LeipJAZZig-Orkester in 1998 and the „artentfaltung“ Chamber Orchestra (Leipzig) in 2007.
