Chao Tang

Chao Tang, a recipient of a full scholarship and the Piano Artist Diploma from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, USA, and also received a full scholarship for study and exchange at Princeton University in the United States. He has successively served as the Executive Director and judge of the 4th Alberti International Piano Competition, a judge at the Golden Key Music Festival Carnegie Hall Performance Competition in New York City, the Executive Director and judge of the Ginastera International Music Competition in China, a judge and performing guest at the 2018 Ningbo International Piano Art Festival, and a special lecture guest at the 2022 Blüthner International Music Festival, among other professional competition judges both domestically and internationally. He has won awards in professional piano competitions at home and abroad and frequently holds concerts and lectures in China and the United States.

In recent years, Chao has performed at the Princeton International Festival Concert Hall, the Leamington Cathedral in New Jersey, the Hartford Polish Chopin Philharmonic Association Hall, the China Pavilion at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, the China Art Palace, Shanghai Education Television, Ningbo Grand Theater, Wuxi Grand Theater, Changzhou Grand Theater, Zhoushan Grand Theater, and other venues. He has participated in the translation and compilation of the Alfred Cortot "Chopin Study Edition" series (Etudes, Preludes, Ballades, Nocturnes), "Moszkowski Etudes" (Op. 72, 92), and C. P. E. Bach's "Essay on The True Art of Playing Keyboard Instruments," which have been published and reprinted by Shanghai Education Publishing House and Zhejiang Education Publishing House, with a total translation of more than 300,000 words of various monographs and documents. In 2022, he was invited to record the "Echoes" flute and bassoon chamber music album with Juanrui Zhang, the principal flutist from the Shanghai Opera House Symphony Orchestra, and Ruijie Chen, the vice-principal bassoonist from the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, which was released by the Shanghai Music Publishing House. In 2024, he recorded the complete set of Czerny's "30 New Progressive Etudes for Left Hand" (Op. 861) for the Anhui Literature and Art Publishing House.

After returning to China, he was successively employed by the College of Arts and Media at Tongji University and the Social Education School of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music to teach piano major and piano pedagogy courses. Students he has taught have been admitted to renowned institutions such as the Juilliard School, Eastman School of Music, University of Michigan School of Music, Oberlin Conservatory, Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, Northwestern University, University of Cambridge, and Tokyo College of Music.
